Art II Prospectus

  Course Overview 

Art II is a two-semester course designed for students who have successfully completed Art I. Art II students shall further expand their knowledge of the elements of art and principles of design through the research, production, and criticism of visual art. Students are expected to use a broad variety of media, techniques, processes, and tools to create original, complex compositions that reflect personal growth, solve visual art problems, and communicate ideas. Students will critique artwork and reflect on the impact of art upon society as well as societal influences on art. Students will exhibit artwork and will assemble portfolios that reflect personal growth and demonstrate successful completion of Art II student learning expectations.

 

Course Objectives 

Throughout Art II, the following essential elements will be addressed. 

   

The Elements of Art … Line, Shape, Color, Space, Texture, Value, and Form 

   

The Principles of Design … Pattern, Balance, Rhythm, Movement, Unity, Proportion, Contrast, and Emphasis.

 

 Subject matter … Drawing, Painting, Design, Sculpture, Printmaking, Textile Arts, Collage, History, Criticism, Aesthetics, Production, Careers, Technology, and Safety.

Course Policies

  • Bring a pencil EVERYDAY! 

(Assume you need all of your class materials.)

  • Appropriate behavior at ALL times!
  • Complete assignments ON TIME!
  • Attendance and active participation is required.
  • Successful completion of tests, quizzes, projects, and sketchbook.

 

Course Requirements Students MUST maintain a sketchbookStudents are expected to enter at least on contest of show for a grade.Students MUST produce at least one wheel thrown piece.Students are expected to complete assignments on time (-2pts for each day late)Attendance and active participation are required.Successful completion of tests, quizzes, projects and written work.Appropriate behavior at all times.

 

Supplies Needed

  • Spiral-bound Sketchbook
  • 3-Ring Binder or 3-Ring Folder for notes and handouts
  • Drawing Pencils
  • White Eraser
  • 2 Black Fine-Point Markers (Preferably Extra -FinebSharpie)
  • Glue Sticks  (liquid glue provided but some projects need stick)
  • Storage Box or Zippered Case to keep materials
  • Extras:  Art Apron,  Kleenex, sponges, tape
